The New London County Bar Association was founded on May 1, 1874. The New London County Bar Association Inc. is a nonprofit 501 (c) corporation dedicated to advancing the science of jurisprudence; facilitating the administration of justice; assisting in the improvement of the judicial systems of Connecticut and the nation; upholding and improving the professional and education standards of the legal profession; assisting in employing the abilities of the legal profession for the general good of the public; encouraging cordial relations among members of the Bar; and cooperating with other bar associations of Connecticut and the nation in furtherance of this.

The NLCBA holds annual social gatherings of members, periodic seminars, honors an individual whose community service has strengthened the American system of freedom under law with its Liberty Bell Award and issues a scholarship award as part of its annual celebration of Law Day (May 1).

The NLCBA maintains the Lawyer Referral Service to assist those seeking an attorney in New London County. The NLCBA is comprised of over 300 members.  These members are in good standing of the Connecticut Bar practice in all areas of the law, serve on the bench, or as in house counsel to corporation, and live and work in New London County. Although the New London County Bar Association,Inc was founded in 1874 and incorporated in 1979 as a nonprofit, lawyers have been serving New London County for over 300 years, continuously appearing in one courthouse since 1784.
